Vancouver’s One Twenty Three West has produced some killer (literally) work for its client Vancouver Island Brewing.
The agency developed orca-themed packaging for the brewer’s limited-edition Pod Pack, which goes on sale later this month.
Proceeds from the Pod Pack will go to the Pacific Salmon Foundation’s effort to preserve the province’s salmon stock, a vital food source for killer whales.
The black and white packaging was specifically designed to represent real orcas from the Southern Resident Killer Whales (SRKW) pods, matching their unique eye saddle patches. Each beer in the series is named after an actual orca: Ocean Sun, Rainshadow, Mystic and Deadhead.
The SRKW whales are considered endangered, though a new calf was spotted this spring, taking the population to 76.
The accompanying box also features a pop-up dorsal fin.
“By naming each brew after a specific orca and wrapping the cans with their actual markings, we were able to make the packaging a true representation of our resident killer whales,” says One Twenty Three West president and CEO Scot Keith.
