In August, China-based Blue Focus, owner of Cossette and the rest of Vision7, announced it was spinning out its international agency holdings, which would be controlled by new investors, Legacy.
Brett Marchand, CEO of the new Blue Impact, said at the time that the deal meant a significant cash infusion it would use to “grow the business, to expand internationally—to open offices to hire people ahead of revenue.”
Among the agency brands included in the new company is social marketing specialist We Are Social. On Tuesday, it was announced that the agency has opened a Canadian office alongside Vision7 in Toronto’s Liberty Village.
The office is led by managing director Coby Shuman, formerly of Huge, and is already doing Canadian work for some of the agency’s global accounts—including Yokohoma, Intuit and Lorex. Other brands on the We Are Social client list include Adidas, Netflix, Samsung, Lavazza, and Google. (See the reel below.)
“Ambitious Canadian marketing leaders are hungry for disruptive, socially led creative ideas. Our goal is to help them become more social,” said Shuman in a release. “Canada’s cultural diversity presents enormous opportunity for the international brands, homegrown global brands, and our thriving startup community to create a social value exchange with their audiences.”
Shuman will report to We Are Social UK chief executive Jim Coleman.
“Canada has huge creative potential, there’s an opportunity for brands to become far more active in Canadian social media culture,” said Coleman. “It’s a market we’ve been watching very closely and now, with Coby at the helm, we feel the stars have aligned and it’s the right time to launch We Are Social in Canada.”
We Are Social opened a Tokyo office in July following openings in Hong Kong and Madrid in 2018.
