Katy Perry sings about food for SkipTheDishes

A few weeks after her international debut for parent company Just Eat, SkipTheDishes has brought Katy Perry to Canada for its latest “Did Somebody Say” campaign.

In the new spot by McCann London, the pop superstar delivers a remixed version of the “Did somebody say” song originally performed by Snoop Dogg.

Perry sings about the joys of ordering from SkipTheDishes through a montage of fantastical rooms in her “dolls-house-inspired” home. There’s a 60-second version, while a :30 and a :15 will start running on TV beginning Monday.

“A little sushi while I watch a movie/Papaya salad while I sing a ballad,” sings Perry. “Need some ice cream, make it a swirl/ Gotta treat this California girl.” Only the chorus is changed from the Just Eat spot.

“Ordering takeaway is a regular Saturday night for me, so it was fun to channel that into a video that is a combination of the things that bring joy to my life: poppy bright colours, wild outfits, and food puns sung over a catchy tune,” said Perry in a Just Eat press release.

“We are ecstatic to work with Katy, whose playful nature has given our ‘Did Somebody Say’ campaign a pop makeover,” said Cheryl Radisa, SkipTheDishes vice-president, marketing.

Along with introducing the new ad this week, SkipTheDishes announced that is hosting a “picnic pop-up” to celebrate Pride Month, with live performances from five popular drag queens. It also partnered with popular Toronto cookie store Craig’s Cookies to make a Black Cherry Pie flavour cookie, with sales going to The 519, an advocacy group for 2SLGBTQ+ communities.
