Turo cleans up with SK8

Car-sharing service Turo prides itself on its wide selection of vehicles, available for almost any occasion or experience. To help bring that brand promise to life, Turo, with help from creative agency No Fixed Address, has just rolled out (slid out?) a uniquely Canadian vehicle only available through Turo—an ice cleaner for those with personal backyard rinks.

The fully electric Turo SK8 is made in Canada by Calgary’s Porta Ice Ltd., and is specifically designed for resurfacing the ice on smaller, backyard rinks. The SK8 can be booked for four-hour blocks in Toronto using Turo, and will be delivered right to the customer’s home.

“Whether it’s a spacious SUV to hit the slopes or the latest EV to experience a longer test drive, or, now, a resurfacer that turns your backyard into a professional ice rink, Turo offers an unparalleled selection of vehicles available to Canadians,” said Cedric Mathieu, vice-president and head of Turo in Canada.

The SK8 is being promoted through a PR push and influencer outreach, including a launch stunt that saw Canadian hockey star Marie-Philip Poulin and hockey content creators On The Bench driving the SK8 through the streets of Toronto.

“With the goal of breaking through in a truly Canadian way, our team took their inspiration from the fact that Canada is home to the most ice hockey rinks worldwide, which does not take into account the countless backyard or local rinks that so many of us can remember,” said Erin Banting, NFA’s vice-president of PR. “With Turo being all about accessibility and convenience, putting an ice resurfacer on the platform allowed us to lean into these brand values in a unique way and provide backyard rink keepers with a unique experience to give their rinks that professional ice feeling.”
