Broken Heart Love Affair announced late Monday that is has hired Dave Watson to lead—and grow—its design department.
Watson has become one of Canada’s most respected and awarded designers, spending most of his career at Taxi, where he rose to the agency’s creative director of design for North America. He then joined Mosaic, where he was most recently VP and executive creative director, design, also with a North American remit.
While BHLA has made a series of high-profile additions to its creative team since launching three years ago, it has not made as much noise in the design department. Rasna Jaswal was hired as the agency’s creative design director in March 2022, but left BHLA earlier this year and Watson has been tasked with actually building out a design department.
“Dave is a phenomenally talented conceptual designer, with an unparalleled commitment to the craft,” said chief creative officer, Craig McIntosh. “We are super stoked he’ll be heading up our design department at BHLA and can’t wait to see the work coming of out BHLA get even stronger.”
“When I was offered the opportunity to work with some of the most talented people in the industry, my decision was a no-brainer,” said Watson in the release. “Simply put, I feel incredibly lucky to be joining a like-minded team who share my vision on being the best agency in Canada.”
