Scotiabank announced a number of senior appointments on Thursday including a new head of marketing for the bank, Aris Bogdaneris, though Laura Curtis Ferrera remains CMO for Scotiabank.
Bogdaneris, who joins from ING in the Netherlands, assumes the title of group head, digital transformation, Tangerine, marketing and analytics. Previously, marketing had been the responsibility of retiring chief human resources officer (CHRO) Barb Mason.
With this shuffle, Scotiabank appears to have divided the two functions (HR and marketing) with Jenny Poulos becoming CHRO in December while, aside from Tangerine, Bogdaneris focuses on marketing, customer insights, data and analytics and real estate.
A Scotiabank spokesperson confirmed that Curtis Ferrera will now report into Bogdaneris (she previously reported to Mason), while Natalie Jones has been promoted to CMO for Tangerine following the departure of Nicole German to HSBC. Jones will report to Curtis Ferrera.
Bogdaneris is a Canadian national but spent most of his career in Europe including the past eight years at ING and nearly 11 years at Raiffeisen Bank before that. At ING, which his most recent position was the global head of retail banking and head of challenger and growth markets.
“I am pleased to welcome Aris to Scotiabank and to our senior leadership team and look forward to leveraging his retail banking and digital expertise and support,” said Scott Thomson, Scotiabank president and CEO in a release. “With Tangerine becoming an integral part of our future growth plans, I am pleased to be able to appoint a dedicated leader with extensive digital banking experience to oversee this business with a plan to help us drive further innovation, accelerate growth and solidify Tangerine’s position as the leading digital bank in Canada.”
Rethink has been Scotiabank’s lead creative agency since 2020, and was named AOR for Tangerine last year, while PHD is lead media agency for the bank.
